Dear Neighbor,

Dear Neighbor,

When I found the 1/4 bag of kibble and opened bag of kitty treats by my mailbox, I assumed someone had dropped their trash.  This morning when I went out and found this bag of kitty food pictured above on my chair by the garage, I knew.  I knew you had walked up my driveway and put this bag there, so I knew it wasn't trash.  The thoughts after figuring out you had purposedly searched out my house, purposedly purchased a bag of cat food and purposedly left it where I would find it, well the thoughts after that are just assumptions.  I cannot figure out WHY you left the cat food.

I can only assume, you were searching the neighborhood for your cat.  Since cats are fickle creatures, you found him at my house.  He stays pretty close to my house these days.  I mean, I saw him as a blur in my garage for months.  It was only a few weeks ago that he decided he was going to let me get near him.  I promise, I did not lock him up until he was brainwashed that my house was better than yours.

But I gotta tell you, I am so in love with him.  So, I really appreciated the extra food.  Keeps him closer to my house.  Then, I wondered, if you are so amazing, I mean, you have to be amazing, dear neighbor, because this cat is amazing.  Someone did a great job raising him right.  He's a true gentleman cat.  Only speaks when spoken too, goes potty outside, snuggles like a champ, all the hallmarks of a well-loved cat.  So, I wonder why he left you and picked me.  What was happening at your house?  New baby?  Crazy husband?  New dog?  I know!  You got a rabbit.  See, I introduced him to my rabbits, and they freaked him out so bad his tail was 6 inches around.  It was a questionable evening afterwards.  I didn't know if I had broken his trust by introducing him to the scary rabbits in the backyard.  But he stayed.

I don't know your story, but I can tell you Hemi's story since he is now living at my house.  Hemi is rockstar.  Just amazing.  I fell in love with him.  It wasn't right away that I fell in love.  See, I've had cats my entire life, I know they are snotty, picky and aloof.  But the day I fell in love with him was just a few days ago.  I was out in the front yard and I saw Hemi lurking in the neighbors bushes.  My heart lept, thinking Hemi was making forays to find a better home.  Fickle beast these cats are.  So I called to him, "HERE, KITTY KITTY!".  His head snapped up and without thought he lept, bounded and ran full bore towards me.  Oh, my.  I knew then he was in love and I fell just as hard.  Then I turned around and Jesse was holding a bowl of kibble.

I'd like to tell you, though, Hemi is healthier now.  I got him some vet care for that nasty cold he had.  Every day I check his toes.  I pet them and exclaim about how cool they are.  Hemi seems to appreciate it.

So, dear neighbor, when you walked by and saw me holding Hemi like a burping baby, maybe you noticed him making bread in my hair.  Maybe you had a moment of "This is where he belongs.".  I'm going to assume these good things about you, because you have to love Hemi to have searched him out and found me and my house.  And then you showed that you love him more than I do, because you let him stay with me.  I just want you to know, he is well loved here at my house.

He has two lawnmates, Sebastian pictured here and Guy pictured above.  They are all gray/brown tiger/tabbies, but man, Hemi just makes this trio complete.  My old guys are accepting the new old guy and drama is at a minimum.  Hemi just fits right in.

So, thank you for the food.  Keep it coming.  I wanna make sure Hemi stays with me.
