Harmony and Addi needles, size 6, with a tape measure I found, on A Little Fishy.
This is how far I'd completed as of last Sunday.
A Little Fishy (Ravelry link) is my first try at color stranding work. While I was pretty confident about the reglan portion of the pattern, I knew once I got to the color charted portion of the pattern, it would get harder.

This is how much I completed in a week of working on it.
I wasn't wrong.
It got harder.
It got more frustrating.
It got me yelling.
It got me cussing.
So, it is sitting in time out with the kitties. I'm a wee bit frustrasted with it. The fact that one tiny sleeve caused me to rip out color stranded work FIVE times (and still has mistakes in it), has me discouraged with the fact that I have an entire body's worth of THREE pattern repeats of fishies to complete. I'm going to need lots of encouragement, self-fortitude, and some rum and coke to get through this sweater.
Go me for trying to challenge myself. Hopping myself awfully close to the frog pond.

It looks really, really difficult. This is one knitting challenge I have never attempted. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThat does look tricky and I'm sorry you had to rip it out, perhaps a little break from it will be what you need to clear your head of it.
ReplyDeleteWhat you have done does look so pretty and I will look forward to seeing it finished... you CAN do it !
Good for you for taking on the challenge, the pattern is really clever. Keep at it, you can do it, just give yourself some time to do something easy and enjoyable in between.
ReplyDeleteGood gravy, that is hardcore!! I am so impressed you were able to do any of that at all!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd of course, it will look incredible when you are done. Because you madam, are the Handy Hooker, and can do ANYTHING.
Better leave it on time out until the frustration ebbs and you can see - the way I can - how great it looks!
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be incredible once you've finished it!
wow, it is stunning! As well as difficult. Rum & Coke sounds good to me, but probably after the hard bits rather than during. LOL at your kitties, they must be able to sense the stress in it if they're not padding that pretty deep blue colour. You will do it, there is definitely lots more right than wrong there.
ReplyDeleteOMGosh! It looks so awesome! I love the water and fish color against the indigo.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you've had such an ordeal with the stranding. I've only done some one w/a giraffe hat. Maybe use more Post Its to break down the instructions into smaller sections?
It looks great and mistakes will only be noticeable to you :). The kitties look like they are very patient with the colorwork though...
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. Take a breather for it to come together.
ReplyDeleteIt looks stunning. I think it might need a time out for awhile and then carry on.
ReplyDeleteyou are an inspiration to those of us who have never done colorwork!that is incredible!
ReplyDeleteOMG it looks amazing and I cant wait to see the finished object :-) Enjoy those rum and cokes ;-)
ReplyDeleteyou are braver than I! I hope to try stranding at some point, but right now I'll keep to self striping yarn!!
ReplyDeleteThe fishes look great, and a lot neater than my attempts at colourwork
ReplyDeleteLooks fishy to me... ;-) No thanks - far too complicated for me - Well done you!
