I'm making a felted skull bag, that I mentioned in this blog. Decided this weekend that it was time to hit the grindstone and actually try to finish the bag. Three things were stopping me. It was all in my head, but I do this thing where I psych myself out.
The three things were:
1. The decrease for the bottom of the bag. (I did not follow the directions and place markers, so roadblock number one was me figuring out where the markers should go before I could continue on to the knitting of the bottom of the bag.)
2. The bind-off for the bottom of the bag. I did this baby three times. First, I didn't read the instructions and just kept knitting the decrease, when I was suppose to stop and create flat bottom and instead had created a triangle bottom. Second, I did the flat bottom, but instead of reading the instructions and turning the bag inside out and binding off from the inside, I did the three-needle bind off from the outside. Ended up with a huge bumping line on the bottom of the bag instead of a flat bottom. Finally, on my third attempt I did the bottom right and called it a day.
3. The I-cord. I've heard raves about these things, and I've done a few and found them to be really easy. Like most things with knit, if I can find a way to crochet it, then I believe it will be 1. easier and 2. faster. So I did find a way to crochet and i-cord. The pictures in this blog are a testament to my success. Guess what? Knitting an i-cord is faster. Go figure. At the end of the day, I thought it was really really cool that both the knit and crochet i-cord look exactly the same. Love it!
What a long wordy post to tell you I knit this weekend and still don't have a Finished Object to show you. The seal has been broken though and I think I've got my crafting mojo back.
Also, wanted to point out that all of my problems were the result of "not reading the directions". How many times have you had this problem?
Peace and I-cords!

Hahaha, well com'on get to it!
(Oh, the answer to your question is never. Of course.)
"not reading the directions" Is that the same as "don't have gps, forgot to mapquest, and won't go into gas station to find out where the hell I'm at?" GUILTY! (It's not wise to attempt this strategy with smart-alecky kids in backseat)
I rarely ever read the directions. I only go to them when I'm stuck. Which is like always so I should probably just read them to begin with.
ahh i am still a big direction reader!! I tried to do my own little thing and combine two styles of hats togethor and do my own thing and well, lets just say the chick has yet to receive her hat cause I am not a big fan of it LOL!
I'm a big direction reader, too. It's kind of half the fun for me. Of course, I still may do what I want also. Esp. with recipes.
I can't even begin to comprehend what you manage with your knitting and crocheting. I mean, I've attempted some very, very elementary stuff, but you can make it do whatever the heck you want!
"seal has been broken" hee! I say that all the time!
